Fix OneDrive Sync Issues on Windows 10

Introduction:

OneDrive is one of the best cloud storage experience on Windows 10 to store and sync your documents and files across devices, but it’s not a perfect system, and sometimes you will run into problems, such as files refusing to sync. We will walk you through several troubleshooting steps to fix problems syncing files to OneDrive on your computer

Some OneDrive Sync issues & Problem in Windows 10: 

1-Ensure that the size of the file is less than 10GB

Files larger than 10GB in size cannot be synced with OneDrive. If the size is more than 10GB and syncing the file is necessary, a ZIP folder could be created for the same.

2-Check for Windows Updates:

Check if the Windows is up to date. If not, update it. To do so, search for “check for updates” on the Windows search bar and open Windows Update. It will show the status whether updated or not. If not, do the needful.

3-Restart the sync process if it paused:

To restart the OneDrive sync client on Windows 10, use these steps:

  1. Click the OneDrive button in the taskbar and click More.
  2. Click the Close OneDrive button.

       3.Open Start.

       4.Search for OneDrive and click the top result to start sync client.

Once you complete the steps, OneDrive should start syncing your contents again.

 

4-Connect the OneDrive account to Windows:

If you’re dealing with a computer that was previously configured to upload and download files from OneDrive, then unlinking and linking the account again may help to resolve the synchronization problem.

To unlink and relink your OneDrive account, use these steps:

  1. Click the OneDrive button in the taskbar and then click More option
  2. Click the Settings option.

       3.lick the Account tab.

      4. Click the Unlink this PC option.

Then open OneDrive again and type your email account associated with your OneDrive account in the wizard.

  1. Click the Sign-in button.
  2. Type your account password.

      3. Click the Sign-in button.

      4.Click the Next button

Continue with the on-screen directions after you complete the steps, files should resume syncing normally on your computer.

5-Fix sync problems with OneDrive updating app:

Although the OneDrive app for Windows 10 can update automatically, it doesn’t always work as expected, and you could end up with an outdated client that can cause syncing issues.

  1. Open the OneDeive website: https://onedrive.live.com/about/en-us/download/
  2. Under the “Start OneDrive” button, click the Click here to download link and save the file on your computer.
  3. Double-click the OneDriveSetup.exe to launch the installer.Note:If the computer is using the latest version, the setup will end automaticallyAfter you complete the steps, the setup will update the app automatically as necessary, and files should start syncing again.

6-An Office file needs your attention error message:

Sometimes, the Office Upload cache system might be interfering with the OneDrive desktop client. Turn OFF the Office upload! It could be turned OFF to isolate the issue.

o do this, right-click on the white OneDrive for cloud icon in the notifications area as in previous steps. Click Settings and select the Office tab.

Uncheck the ‘Use Office 2016 to sync Office files that I open’ checkbox.

7-Check if the file path is too long:

The maximum allowed character limit for the file path is 400 characters. If it exceeds, it might create issues with syncing. In such a case, try to omit unnecessary sub-folders and try to bring the target locations as close as possible to the root directory.

8- Check if a duplicate file or folder with the same name is present there:

If you use multiple PC’s to sync with the same cloud drive, and more than one is trying to share a path with the same address as the location, it will create a conflict. The path name could be changed on any one device to fix the problem.

9- Check available disk space on the system:

Check the available disk space on your system and compare it with the utilized disk space on the OneDrive online site. If the system is short of space, the files won’t sync. If you are short of space, try the following steps:

After easing the space on the system, the OneDrive client could be re-initiated. But in case deleting and mitigating files does not make enough space on the system, you could sync files with OneDrive selectively.

10-Verify that all folders you wanted to sync are selected

If one or multiple folders and files are missing from the OneDrive folder, you may be using selective sync, and which case, you may need to update your settings to make those files available through File Explorer.

  1. Click the OneDrive button in the bottom-right corner. and click the More option.
  2. Click the Settings option.

      3. Click the Account tab.

      4. Click the Choose folder button.

      5. Select the Make all files available option.

      6. Click the OK button.   

Once complete the steps, you should now be able to access and sync all your files and folders using File Explorer.
