Azure Information Protection (AIP)

Introduction:

Azure Information Protection (AIP) is a cloud-based solution that helps an organization to classify and optionally, protect its documents and emails by applying labels. wherever they go, in and outside the organization.

Azure Information Protection (AIP) helps organizations to classify, label and protect corporate documents and emails within their on-premises, cloud or hybrid environments.

Azure Information Protection(AIP) can be split into two main Parts:

1- Classification and Labelling (Azure Information Protection, or AIP) 

2- Protection (Azure Rights Management Service, or Azure RMS)

1- Classification and labelling

Classify and label your data based on levels of sensitivity with Azure Information Protection, you can create policies that classify and label data at the time of initial creation, or when modified, based on particular types of content.

2- Encryption and rights management

Azure RMS is a cloud-based service, that uses encryption, rights enforcement and expiration policies to secure corporate files and emails, across multiple devices.

By applying Azure RMS, you can encrypt your sensitive data and define usage rights for your users.

Example :

If you send an AIP-protected file or email to another party, they make a copy of it and file it into their document management system or file server. Even then, you will still retain full control of the document, managing and revoking access entirely as necessary. You can decide whether recipients are able to print, send, or take a screenshot of the document. Track who has opened the document and destroy it if you wish.

Organizations will likely want customized macros, these will allow users to easily click, as per below, the document protection would be proactively initiated by the user, by clicking an icon, running a macro, or otherwise taking an action.

AIP can also be configured to run behind the scenes, automatically scanning all document content and applying protection ,AIP automatically detects the presence of sensitive information such as social security and credit card numbers to set the appropriate level of permissions. You can make it provide a reason and confirm with the user if you prefer ,This can all be configured and audited from the backend—and the protection will travel with the document.
